Owing to the increase of orphaned children due to HIV and Aids pandemic, MRCH now has many children in its care. A significant number of children who lose their parents to AIDS are also being found to be infected themselves. With the increase in the number of infected children, MRCH has employed a full-time State Registered nurse. This is essential for MRCH now has a policy of mainstreaming HIV and AIDS in all its programming. The children's clinic at MRCH Epworth caters for all the less fortunate children in the community. The children are afforded essential health care. Currently 17 chronically ill children are on ARV therapy, while 25 are on antibiotic treatment. The children and their guardians are also given relevant nutritional and health education. Funding is now required to turn the clinic at Epworth into a child-friendly complex, and to acquire essential medication for the children which now costs US$10 per a child per month. |
