Education

Matthew Rusike Children's Home encourages all the children to go to school and has succeeded in doing so. The Home has a strong child sponsorship programme which is specifically for the education of the children. Current sponsors include:

1. Qantas Cabin Crew Team members and individual Australian citizens
2. Friends of the Home in England
3. Trinity Men's Fellowship
4. MCZ Kadoma District
5. Methodist Women's Association
6. United Theological College (UTC), Hatfield

Matthew Rusike Children's Home believes strongly that if the care of the children is to be complete then they must be equipped with skills that will enable them to make a positive contribution to their country. The children are also involved in self-help projects such as gardening, pig rearing, computer training, hospitality skills training and tailoring.

The Home has managed to produce useful citizens who will be able to assist the development of the Home and the country at large. Records of the Home indicate that MRCH has produced police officers, technicians in a variety of fields and teachers, just to name a few. Some children from Matthew Rusike Children's Home have studied for O levels and A levels., Waddilove, Pakame, Chemhanza, Kwenda and Sandringham). Many of the children receive awards for good behaviour, sporting excellence or academic excellence.

Students from the Home have received Bachelor of Arts degree, Medical degree from Harare University and Social Science degree from Fort Hare University in South Africa

Study Group
The MRCH Study Group is one such community facility that takes care of those children who may have fallen out of the formal school system. The MRCH employs mentors who help less-fortunate children with studies for Form 1 to 4 levels. The orphaned and vulnerable children are not required to pay fees, but are tutored and helped through their O'Levels at no cost.

With funding this project can become an accomplished private school, one that is registered and supported by the Ministry of Education and operate on humanitarian, rather than profit basis. Funding will, thus, help to upgrade the buildings, enhance capacity and buy essential books, which will effectively improve the pass rate.

Crèche
The Crèche was for the children in its institutional care, but with the increase in the number of orphans, and the implementation of the Community Based Orphan Care Schemes (CBOCS), the crèche doors have been opened wider to accommodate the children in the community. There are plans to expand the existing facilities to meet the statutory acceptable standards. The proposed building will have two play rooms for Levels I and II, a computer room, kitchen and dining room. The playing equipment will also need to be renovated and additional equipment is needed.

Funding to enable the facility to extend its infrastructure and to feed the ever-increasing number of orphaned and vulnerable children are the main needs.
